Smith-Thompson Announces Bid For At-Large Seat

Smith-Thompson made the announcement via Facebook today, 14 September, confirming her return to electoral politics ahead of elections constitutionally due by mid-July 2027.

Educator and former Acting Permanent Secretary Dr. Arlene L. Smith-Thompson has announced that she will contest the upcoming general elections as an Independent Territorial At-Large candidate.

Smith-Thompson made the announcement via Facebook today, 14 September, confirming her return to electoral politics ahead of elections constitutionally due by mid-July 2027.

Smith-Thompson previously contested the Third District seat under the Virgin Islands Party in the 2019 general elections. She received 289 votes but was defeated by incumbent Julian Fraser, who secured 519 votes.

She is also a former Vice-President for Academic Affairs at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College and has spent several years in education and public administration.

Smith-Thompson said that she will deliver a launch speech later today.
