The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has charged suspended officer Javier Smith, 39, of Belle Vue, with possession of a firearm with intent to put another person in fear and common assault.
Smith was arrested for questioning and interdicted from duty following a domestic-related incident reported on May 27, 2026. Investigations continued, leading to the firearm and assault charges.
According to police, he was granted $45,000 bail and is scheduled to appear before the Magistrate’s Court on October 1, 2026.
Acting Commissioner of Police Richard Ullger said allegations against RVIPF members are taken seriously and will be thoroughly investigated.
“Where evidence supports that an offence has been committed, appropriate action will be taken, regardless of the individual’s position within the Force,” Ullger stated.
The RVIPF said it remains committed to maintaining public confidence and investigating allegations of criminal conduct involving its members “without fear or favour”.
