The British Virgin Islands showcased its sailing heritage and tourism offerings at Cowes Week in the United Kingdom as the renowned regatta celebrated its 200th anniversary from August 1 to 7.

According to the BVI Tourist Board, its UK team welcomed 914 visitors to the BVI booth, where guests explored the Territory’s culture and underwater marine life through virtual reality experiences.

The event provided a fitting platform to promote the Territory as “The British Virgin Islands, Sailing Capital of the World” and highlight the sailing experiences and events that continue to place the destination on the global map.

The team also promoted the BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival, a major event on the Territory’s sailing calendar.

More than 80 sailors, media representatives, tourism partners and friends of the BVI later attended a post-race reception, which featured Caribbean canapés, BVI Painkillers and fruit punch mocktails.

The BVITB also engaged representatives from the Royal BVI Yacht Club, Royal Ocean Racing Club, Caribbean Sailing Association and LV Yachting.
