The Government has signed a contract with E & K Trucking and Construction Services Limited to build a new social home for the Leonard family on Virgin Gorda.
According to a Government Information Services press release, the project forms part of the Ministry of Health and Social Development’s efforts to provide safe and secure housing for vulnerable residents.
Minister for Health and Social Development Hon. Vincent Wheatley described the home as one of the most meaningful social housing projects undertaken during his tenure.
“This has been a long-awaited project. It is one of the most important social homes I believe I will deliver during my tenure because of the history of this family,” he stated.
The minister said the family members are descendants of the late Oliver Leonard, a well-known entrepreneur and fisherman remembered for his generosity and service to the Virgin Gorda community.
“I am honoured to see this project become a reality and dedicate it to his memory and the contributions he made to the Virgin Gorda community,” Hon. Wheatley added.
Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. Natalio Wheatley congratulated the Leonard family and said the Government remains committed to ensuring that vulnerable residents have access to safe and secure housing.
Contractor Enos Aaron of E & K Trucking and Construction Services Limited said the project will be larger than the other social homes previously completed by the company.
“We are committed to delivering a quality home for the Leonard family,” Aaron stated.
The contract cost and anticipated completion date were not disclosed in the press release.
