The British Virgin Islands men’s teams delivered several strong performances on the opening day of the 2026 Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Under-20 Beach Volleyball Championship in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Alexander Wheatley and Macmonte Fahie led the BVI charge, recovering from a straight-sets loss to Saint Lucia, 14-21, 6-21, to secure three consecutive victories and finish the day with an impressive 3-1 record.

The pair defeated Sint Maarten, 21-15, 21-17, before overcoming host country St. Kitts and Nevis in a three-set battle, 21-18, 18-21, 15-13. They then closed the day with another hard-fought victory, defeating Bermuda, 21-18, 17-21, 15-9.

BVI’s Carl Miranda Gaskin and Kristian Young also showed resilience during a challenging opening schedule. They narrowly lost to St. Kitts and Nevis, 19-21, 21-17, 12-15, before falling to Antigua and Barbuda, 9-21, 13-21.

However, the duo responded strongly in their final match, battling past Grenada, 21-17, 20-22, 15-8, to secure their first victory of the championship.

In the women’s competition, Natalia Drayton and Amiah Mofford faced strong opposition from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Anguilla and St. Kitts and Nevis. Although the BVI pair lost all three matches in straight sets, they gained valuable experience as they continued their regional campaign.
