A $562,100 contract was signed with Professional Roofing Ltd. today, August 11, to repair the roof of the Nurse Iris O’Neal Medical Centre on Virgin Gorda (VG).
The project will address the longstanding problems affecting the roof and modernise the facility, allowing for improved healthcare services. Works are expected to begin shortly.
Premier and Minister of Finance Dr Natalio Wheatley called for the highest standard of workmanship, noting that residents have endured significant disruptions because of structural failures.
“Build it strong. Build it right. Build it to last,” he told the contractor and project supervisors.
Dr Wheatley apologised to Virgin Gorda residents for the inconvenience and acknowledged the delays caused by the project having to be re-tendered.
He said the Government rejected temporary patchwork and instead pursued a comprehensive, long-term solution addressing the root of the roof problems.
“The contract is awarded, the resources are aligned, and the work can finally begin,” Premier Wheatley stated.
