Some 268 volunteers removed 1,754 pounds of garbage from coastlines across the Territory during the 2026 International Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, September 19.
The cleanup covered Trellis Bay, Anegada, Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke, with residents joining forces to tackle marine litter.
According to Green VI, the amount collected in just a few hours was nearly equal to one full day of material typically received for recycling across the BVI.
“Every piece collected is a reminder that marine litter doesn’t disappear and that turning the tide starts with all of us,” Green VI stated.
The organisation thanked the volunteers, partners and other organisations that supported the cleanup across the four locations.
“Our ocean is the heartbeat of the Virgin Islands and today, you showed up for it,” Green VI said.
The organisation described the cleanup as an example of the impact residents can make through collective action.
