The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) has advised residents of the Virgin Islands to stay away from beaches and out of the water after a tsunami advisory was issued for the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

According to the DDM, the earliest estimated time that hazardous sea level fluctuations and strong ocean currents could begin affecting the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico is 7:19 p.m. AST on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

While an evacuation is not required at this time, the DDM is urging the public to exercise caution by avoiding beaches, harbours and coastal waters until the advisory is lifted.

The department said it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
