“I think we would all have noted the greater visibility of patrols and traffic checks around the territory,” he said.

Governor Daniel Pruce has praised the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) following a 22 per cent reduction in overall crime during the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year.

Speaking during a recent press conference, Governor Pruce described the decline as a significant and encouraging development, while commending officers for their work amid the force’s ongoing transformation.

“I think overall, for this quarter compared to last year, the overall crime trend is down by 22 per cent, so that’s quite a significant decline,” Governor Pruce stated.

The Governor said the positive trend reflects the efforts of the RVIPF leadership and rank-and-file officers who continue adapting to modern policing demands and an increasingly complex criminal environment.

“My sense is that the RVIPF is operating in ways which are enabling effective responses and anticipation of criminal risk and reducing that,” he said.

The Governor pointed to the increased visibility of police patrols and traffic checks across the territory as one of the noticeable changes contributing to public confidence and crime prevention efforts.

“I think we would all have noted the greater visibility of patrols and traffic checks around the territory,” he said. “And I suspect there must also be a lot that’s going on in terms of really important policing that’s less visible to us all.”

While acknowledging the positive statistics, the Governor said police continue to monitor specific categories of crime closely, including domestic violence and sexual abuse, which had previously been identified as areas of concern.

He stressed, however, that the latest figures suggest the force is moving in the right direction.

“The headline statistics look encouraging and we should be welcoming that direction of travel,” Governor Pruce said.

The Governor also highlighted the broader transformation underway within the RVIPF, saying the organisation is strengthening its methods, techniques and operational capabilities.

“As we’ve discussed previously in these press conferences, the RVIPF is an organisation which is going through a transformation, which is developing its methods and its techniques, it’s building capability,” he said.

The Governor reserved special praise for officers within the force, commending their commitment to embracing change and improving policing standards across the Virgin Islands.

“I pay enormous tribute to the officers in the RVIPF, who are embracing that transformation extremely positively and productively,” he stated.
