The new lights at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground have been switched on following the completion of electrical works at the Territory’s premier sporting facility.

Six new lighting poles, each standing approximately 30 metres, or nearly 100 feet, have been installed by contractor No Limit Construction.

“A major milestone has been reached at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground,” the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) said in an update on October 6.

The lighting project was put out to tender by the RDA in February 2025 as part of ongoing works at the recreation ground.

The facility has undergone several phases of rehabilitation since Hurricanes Irma and Maria caused significant damage in 2017.

The RDA said the track was subsequently resurfaced in 2019 to restore the facility for athletic training, competitions and community use.

Further works are also underway to resurface the track as part of the continued redevelopment of the sporting facility.
