Businessman Lesmore Smith who will be running as an independent candidate for the Fifth District in the next general election, has pledged to fight for residents who need more support.
“I’ll continue to fight to see the people of the Fifth District get the support they need, so they can thrive and not just live,” Smith said.
He traced that commitment to his upbringing. His mother worked as a domestic worker and his father was a farmer. Smith recalled walking from Long Trench through Great Mountain to Huntums Ghut, sometimes visiting homes to ask for help.
“Our children are hurting, our seniors are suffering, and we need help,” he said. Smith believes his own experiences have prepared him to help make residents’ lives better.
"I think I can give some of that help because of the experience that me myself have been through...from humble beginnings..."
Smith, who is no stranger to politics, is seeking the seat held by Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Kye Rymer, the Minister for Communications and Works. Rymer won the Fifth District in 2019 and again in 2023.
