Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. Natalio Wheatley and his delegation received a warm welcome upon their arrival in India for the Virgin Islands’ inaugural Financial Services Trade Mission.
Premier Wheatley is leading the public-private delegation alongside Junior Minister for Financial Services and Economic Development Honourable Lorna Smith, OBE.
The team comprises representatives from the Government, BVI Financial Services Commission, BVI Finance, BVI Hong Kong Office and several private-sector professionals.
The participation of industry representatives has been described as a demonstration of confidence in the Government’s decision to pursue India as an important new market for the Territory’s financial services sector.
During the mission, which runs from August 24 to 31, the delegation will visit New Delhi, GIFT City, Mumbai and Bengaluru for regulatory discussions, industry meetings, business-to-business engagements and BVI financial services roadshows.
The mission is aimed at attracting new business, strengthening relationships with Indian regulators and financial institutions, generating qualified leads for BVI service providers and expanding the Territory’s presence in the Indian market.
The delegation will also promote the BVI’s expertise in corporate structuring, investment funds, private wealth, financial technology and cross-border business as it seeks to create opportunities for long-term partnerships and continued global growth.
