A caller to the National Democratic Party’s (NDP) radio programme has accused Sixth District Representative Myron Walwyn of behaving like Third District Representative Julian Fraser, suggesting he is relying on district support while leaving voters uncertain about his party commitment.
During the November 4 programme, the resident asked whether Walwyn remained with the NDP, prompting Deputy Chairman Melvin “Mitch” Turnbull to confirm his membership.
“He is still a member of the National Democratic Party,” Turnbull said.
The caller, however, argued that membership alone was insufficient and that someone with Walwyn’s intelligence should be playing a more visible role in strengthening the party.
“He not strengthening the party to me,” the caller said.
Drawing the comparison with Fraser, the caller suggested Walwyn appeared confident that his constituents would re-elect him, allowing him to decide his political alignment afterwards.
"He should have been more upfront with the party because people would love to hear him with the party. But to me, he is behaving something like Mr Fraser. He knows his people are going to put him in, and when he gets in, then he just say what he want to be in the party,” the resident lamented.
“I don’t like that kind of thing. I like when I am supporting to know what I am supporting. I believe in being straightforward,” the resident added.
The criticism comes as Walwyn remains an NDP member but has maintained a public focus on the Sixth District, with no visible party branding in his district work and an absence from the party’s radio appearances.
Walwyn was unsuccessful in his bid in April to become deputy chairman.
When previously approached by BVI Platinum News about speculation surrounding his future with the NDP, Walwyn responded, “No comment.” In a separate October statement denying claims about discussions involving the People’s Leadership Movement, he said his focus remained on serving the Sixth District.
