Days after returning from a financial services trade mission to India, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. Natalio Wheatley is travelling to Bermuda and the United Kingdom for a series of high-level meetings.
According to the Government Information Service (GIS), Dr. Wheatley will attend the Annual Caribbean Overseas Territories Caucus in Bermuda from September 8 to 10.
The caucus will be held under the leadership of Bermuda Premier E. David Burt.
Dr. Wheatley will then travel to the United Kingdom for bilateral meetings with the minister responsible for the Overseas Territories from September 10 to 12.
He returned to the Territory recently after leading a public-private delegation to India from August 24 to 31. The inaugural financial services trade mission included stops in New Delhi, GIFT City, Mumbai and Bengaluru and sought to attract new business and expand the Territory’s presence in the Indian market.
Deputy Premier Julian Fraser will perform the duties of Premier and assume responsibility for Dr. Wheatley’s ministerial portfolios from September 7 to 13.
These include finance; tourism, culture and sustainable development; and financial services, economic development and digital transformation.
Fraser’s appointment is in keeping with Section 55(1) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007, which requires the Deputy Premier to perform the Premier’s functions when the Premier is expected to be absent from the Territory for more than 48 hours.
