(PLTM) - GIs - Fourteen (14) students who were a part the 2024 cohort of Summer Apprentices have received Public Service working experience through their placements across ministries in the Government of the Virgin Islands.

The summer programme instituted by the Department of Human Resources allows for the placement of interested student applicants in departments and ministries that relate to their area of interest or study.

The college and university students participate in a structured work-to-learn programme for a period of up to six (6) weeks during school breaks, which allows them to translate academic training to a working environment.

Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sharleen DaBreoLettsome, MBE highlighted the importance of capacity building and public engagement through advance recruitment practices such as these.

Mrs. DaBreo-Lettsome, MBE said, “It is always an honour to welcome students into the Public Service to receive experience that will help to craft their understanding and appreciation for the vital work that is executed across the numerous sectors in the Public Service”

Summer Apprentices were placed in several ministries and departments this year including Office of the Deputy Governor, Virgin Islands Shipping Registry, Ministry of Financial Services, Labour and Trade, Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Attorney's General Chambers, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Health and Social Development, Department of Disaster Management, Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and the Department of Information and Public Relations.
