This past weekend, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) conducted a series of operations resulting in significant seizures and the arrest of an individual in possession of a prohibited firearm and drugs. The operations were part of the ongoing effort to enhance public safety and curb illegal activities within the community.
Firearm Seizure and Arrest
On Friday, August 31, officers of the Virgin Gorda Police Station responded to a report concerning a possible firearm possession at a local residence. Upon arrival, the officers were met by the father of the minor involved and granted permission to conduct a search.
During the search, a green towel was discovered and upon inspection, the towel was found to contain a suspected AK-47 rifle and magazine with 18 rounds of ammunition. The 14-year-old was immediately arrested and subsequently charged for Unlawful Possession of a Prohibited Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Explosives. He was granted bail to appear at the Magistrate’s Court on September 3.
Controlled Drug Seizure at Scatliffe Alley
Later that evening, after 8pm, Officers conducted a search operation in Scatliffe Alley. During the search, a substantial quantity of controlled drugs was discovered hidden in an old refrigerator. The drugs recovered included 357.1 grams of green vegetable matter suspected to be marijuana, 27.2 grams of a white powdered substance suspected to be cocaine, and 141.7 grams of an off-white, hard, rock-like substance suspected to be crack cocaine.
Ammunition Magazine Recovery at Capoon’s Bay
On Saturday, August 31, 2024, another successful operation was conducted at Capoon’s Bay. During a search, an extended empty magazine was discovered in an old discarded deep freezer located outside an establishment. Officers were also able to conduct searches of over 20 persons and vehicles.
Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool stated, “These successful operations underscore our commitment to maintaining public safety and combating illegal activities in our community.”
