(PLTM) - Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines has fired back at her opponent and former colleague Myron Walwyn for accusing her of plagiarism when it comes to plans for District Six.

She also accused him of not supporting her plans while he was Minister of Education when they both served under the National Democratic Party (NDP).

Following, Hon. Maduro-Caines launched last evening, March 26, Walwyn's Official Campaign Facebook Page posted: "The incumbent was soo inspired by our plans that she borrowed them! Our candidate is already making a change and he is not even elected yet. Even the incumbent trusts his plans."

However, Maduro-Caines said the ideas are not entirely new.

"I could belabour the point and continue to demonstrate how the plans I presented and the plans of any candidate vying for the same space will bear some similarities. But while there’s unnecessary banter about 'plagiarism', what I know for sure is that when Mr. Walwyn and I worked together, I presented the Youth Empowerment Programme to him on the same day that I went to meet with key stakeholders. He acted like he was supportive, but later showed no interest. A form of that idea now appears on his list," she said in a Facebook post today March 27.

Maduro-Caines, Sixth District Representative and candidate under the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) said that when she presented Walwyn with the idea to cover the basketball court in Purcell, she was met with no support.

"The very business that sits on the basketball court now, was met with the hardest opposition to get approval from the then minister, who insulted the young people who were trying to make an honest dollar and needed a recreational space."

She added, "The covering of the bleachers, part of the same idea, was rushed a few weeks ago. Though my idea was a complete covering like that of the Jeffery Caines arena in Virgin Gorda."

The Sixth District Representative said under the NDP, when she asked for assistance to repaint and refurbish the Purcell community center to make it usable for senior citizens, for others and as a district office, "not a dime of the over $8,000 it cost to do so came from him, despite presenting the plan and asking for assistance from his territorial allocation. This is the same centre that I helped to reopen on 27th February, 2023 which he refers to using on his lists and in speeches."

She said that Walwyn and her sat together for years discussing her plans for sixth district, "and as I try to recall what he helped with in the district, only a contribution to paint the Baugher’s Bay and Purcell Estate Basketball courts come to mind."

Maduro-Caines added, "The only word that the Walwyn campaign can say that I “plagiarised” was “elevate”, a word that he clearly lays claim to adding to the modern dictionary. The Facebook posts, series of videos and paid planted news stories, are trite and childish."
