(PLTM) - Friday, September 30 was the official funeral of former legislator, Cyril Lewis Walters MBE, also known as Louis Walters.
During a tribute, Dr. Charles Wheatley said “Our brother was a civic-minded BV Islander who worked sincerely and willing to assist in making the BVI a better place in which to live. You have evidence to justify his claim.” He added that “His professional and administrative legacies are building blocks for the government to ventilate.”
The procession left from the vicinity of Manuel Reef and continued to the Sea Cow’s Bay Methodist Church. Additionally, a preservice was scheduled, which was followed by a funeral service which started at 10:30 a.m. Following this, the Interment was at the Greenland Cemetery.
Official flags were flown in the Virgin Islands at half-mast on September 29 and 30 at all Government buildings to observe the life and death of the former legislator.
The body of late Lewis lied in state at the Sea Cow’s Bay Methodist Church from on September 29.
During this time, the members of the public paid their last respects, and reflected solemnly on his life.
The former legislator died on September 13 at the age of 87.
He was first elected to the Legislative Council in 1986 and served for eight years consecutively as the Minister of Health, Education and Welfare. During his tenure, he also had the opportunity to act as Chief Minister.
