(PLTM) - Britain, joined by the rest of the world is paying its final respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II, through processions, tributes and services in both London and Windsor.
The service, which began at 11 a.m at Westminster Abbey, was preceded by Irish and Scottish regiments carrying the Queen’s coffin into the church from Westminster Hall. King Charles III, other members of the royal family and members of the household followed behind.
Premier and Finance Minister, Hon. Dr. Natalio Wheatley and Governor John Rankin are in the UK attending the funeral.
“Over the last 10 days, my wife and I have been so deeply touched by the many messages of condolence and support we have received from this country and across the world,” King Charles III expressed.
He also said that “As we all prepare to say our last farewell, I wanted simply to take this opportunity to say thank you to all those countless people who have been such a support and comfort to my family and myself in this time of grief.”
This is the first state funeral to be held in Britain in almost 60 years. The last state funeral was for Winston Churchill, the wartime Prime Minister. The funeral was attended by more than a hundred world leaders and high ranking government officials.
Thousands of mourners and spectators lined the streets between London and Windsor to catch glimpses of the procession.
“Here, where Queen Elizabeth was married and crowned, we gather from across the nation, from the Commonwealth and from the nations of the world,” Rev. David Hoyle, the dean of Westminster said during the service.
Several tributes made mention of Queen Elizabeth’s service, wisdom and commitment, not only in the United Kingdom and in the Commonwealth but throughout the world.
Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest after a private burial service conducted by the dean of Windsor, attended only by the royal family at George VI memorial chapel in St George’s chapel. This is also the final resting place for Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth’s parents, King George VI and the Queen Mother.
