(PLTM) - As the new school year commences today September 12, students of the Willard Wheatley Primary School were imparted with words of wisdom and encouragement by their teachers.
Before lessons started today, the children were reminded to always strive for excellence and to embrace fully the confidence within themselves, and to capitalize on opportunities presented to them.
Appropriately, the motto of the school is “Every student matters…every moment counts!”
Though this school year will bring with it challenges and difficult moments, the students were implored by teachers to never give up.
A parent of two daughters who attend the Willard Wheatley Primary School indicated to BVI Platinum News that she is more relieved now, than at the beginning of the previous school year.
She stated “Last year, there were more uncertainties and confusion about COVID, and we were between deciding if to go fully face to face or if to do fully online, or if to have a mixed approach.”
She added that “Although you still have to be careful and make sure you are hygienic, at least the students are all at school.”
She said she believed that students are given greater exposure while in the classroom where they can benefit fully from interacting directly with their peers and teachers.
One father whose son started school today said he was feeling a bit nervous. However he noted that based on his interactions with the staff at the school, he was confident that his 5 year old son was placed in capable hands.
“He is a little bit shy so I was worried about him being that it’s his first day. He takes a while to get used to new environments and settings… but after he has settled in, he is a completely different child,” he told BVI Platinum News.
Another parent said that he has high expectations for his son, and as the school term continues, he will be monitoring his progress .
“After having such a good time during the long summer break, readjusting to the school routine is hard but I expect him to get back into the grove and perform well,” the father said.
He also noted he would also have to readjust to the routine of picking up and dropping his son off, while committing to being at work on time.
