(PLTM) - Former Director of the BVI Tourist Board, Hadassah Ward, has been appointed to head the Commission of Inquiry (COI) implementation Unit.
The unit which was established on August 15 and will report directly to the Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office Mrs. Carolyn Stoutt Igwe, who is the chair of the COI Implementation Steering Committee.
Accprding to Government of the Virgin Islands has recently established, a unit to facilitate the implementation of the Commission Of Inquiry (COI) recommendations, in addition to other government reform processes.
“The formation of the Implementation Unit is another milestone towards successful government reform. The unit affirms Government’s commitment to the comprehensive and timely implementation of the COI recommendations and facilitates the critical participation of ministries and departments,” Stoutt Igwe stated.
She added, “The close working relationship safeguards against duplication of efforts, allows for quick responses and corrective action if any bottlenecks or problems are encountered, centralises the monitoring and reporting of progress and facilitates better coordination and communication between responsible implementing parties.”
Specifically, the COI unit will be tasked with bolstering departments and aiding them to formulate work plans for the delivery of recommendations, drafting policy frameworks, and the overall development of new programmes and systems.
The preparation of monthly progress reports, work programmes, and reports to identify challenges and potential solutions will also fall under the unit’s responsibility.
According to a press release by the Government of the Virgin Islands, the unit will also be “comprised of officers with expertise in strategic planning and implementation, procurement, policy analysis and development, monitoring and evaluation, communications, research and administration. The unit will be in operation for an initial period of six months, with the possibility of subsequent extensions following an internal review.”
