(PLTM) - The Soca Monarch Competition returned with a bang to the 2022 Emancipation Festival for the first time since 2019.

However, the results from the competition were the same, as Ramon G successfully defended his title and won the cash prize of $5,000.

Shortly after regaining his title as the Soca Monarch, Ramon G expressed his feelings in an interview with BVI Platinum News.

He added, “I feel awesome. It’s so exhilarating. I been under so much pressure and it seems like everything was going wrong.”

Ramon G explained that he only received his costume on the day of the Soca Monarch finals because he was awaiting its shipment which was delayed in Trinidad.

Despite the challenges faced, his was able to persevere and perform spectacularly on Saturday night at the Festival Village.

He attributed his success to God who he said has guided him throughout the process.

“God is control and he told me what to do, and I followed his instructions and executed once again,” the overwhelmed Ramon G explained.

He single-handedly composed and penned the lyrics to his song “Mass Intentions”.

He gave some insight to the meaning of the song during the interview which he said was inspired by the need to experience familiar party vibes after the dreariness of the pandemic.

“Every time we come out now, because of COVID and all of that, we have mass intentions and we gon’ make mass everywhere. If a bottle drop on the ground, we making mass!”
