(PLTM) - The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has identified a Vincentian man as the latest gun-related homicide for the year.

Corey Butler, 35, of Lambert Estate was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital.

The RVIPF previously stated that they are investigating the fatal shooting that occurred on Flemming Street on Tuesday, June 21. Persons in the area told BVI Platinum News that the shooting occurred sometime after 6 p.m.

Police are also seeking assistance from members of the public who may have witnessed the incident, or have credible information relating these events.

According to the police, information in this matter will be treated with the strictest confidence. Persons are asked to contact the Major Crime Team at 368-5682 or the RVIP Unit at 368-9339.

Butler is the third gun-related homicide this year. Back in February, Le Shaughn Smith, a heavy equipment business owner and co-owner of a local boating company was gunned down execution-style in Huntums Ghut.

On January 30, Jaquan Thomas, 29, was found unresponsive outside a residential area in Little Apple Bay following reports of shots fired.

Both previous murders remain unsolved.

Last year the BVI recorded six murders, the last of which was Jaimez Stoutt, a U.S Army veteran, who was shot and killed inside Crystal’s Nightclub in December.
