(PLTM) - If one was to ask the Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon. Andrew Fahie about the planned ministerial meetings with residents being linked to the upcoming general elections, he is likely to respond in the negative.
Government Ministers will from this week begin holding public sessions in their officers where residents with long outstanding issues will be accommodated without an appointment.
“You would recall that in late 2019, early 2022 before COVID-19 struck your Government had implemented an initiative where your Ministers would come to you in your communities so that you could meet with them even if you did not have an appointment to discuss the issues and problems that you need your Government to solve,” Premier Fahie told the media on Friday, February 11.
He added, “The initiative was working very well. A number of persons were able to get their long outstanding issues resolved, but then COVID-19 came in March 2020 and this affected our ability to carry out this initiative in the way we had intended.”
Premier Fahie disclosed that for the remainder of February, the Government will be holding the community sessions in their offices on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between the hours of 11 am and 3 pm.
“Persons in the community who have very long outstanding matters in any of the five ministries or anywhere in Government can come to meet with the relevant Minister without appointments every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday each week of the Month of February to discuss your long outstanding issue in any Ministry or any department,” the Premier stated.
He also disclosed plans for the Ministers to visit various communities to meet with residents which will be announced.
General elections are constitutionally due in just over a year and opponents have predicted that the Government would call snap elections based on the increase activities related to community meetings and projects being launched.
