(PLTM) - Health Minister, Hon. Carvin Malone and other members and staff of the house of Assembly have undertaken volunteering testing for COVID-19.

The move comes after revelations that Premier and Minister for Finance Hon. Andrew Fahie and his deputy, Minister for Education Hon. Dr. Natalio ‘Sowande’ Wheatley, tested positive for COVID-19.

"HOA Members in the adundance of caution and to ease the curiosity of many, the remaining colleagues, members and staff of the House of Assembly are volunteering to be tested for COVID. I tested today and it's negative. Ok then," said Hon. Malone via his Facebook page.

The Territory is seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases, 275 active with eight hospitalizations reported as of yesterday, December 29 compared to 143 active cases as of December 24.

The Premier tested positive for COVID-19 on December 24.

“The testing was consistent with the established protocols where our Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley, recently tested positive for COVID-19 and all his listed recent contacts – of which I was one – required to also be tested. Following the Health protocols and in an effort to assist with contact tracing, all my recent contacts were reported to the Health Officials,” the Premier had stated.

At the time, the territory’s leader had informed that the other members of his family were also tested for the virus, “but all results received thus far are negative.”
