(PLTM) - A British Virgin Islands native of East End Tortola, who was sentenced in 2017 to six and a half years imprisonment for Incest, is appealing his conviction.

This is according to the preliminary cause list for May 31 to Friday 4th June 2021 of the high court of appeal of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.

The man who had four counts of Incest against him, was sentenced by Justice Nicola Byer in the high court, and she ruled that his sentences were to run concurrently after describing the crime as a serious and heinous offence.

His trial lasted for one week, and a nine-member jury returned with the guilty verdict on all counts.

According to the court, the victim was entrusted to his care, and he had a duty to protect when he allegedly had an incestuous relationship with the said victim.

The offences reportedly occurred in 2010. Defence attorneys Valerie Stephens-Gordon and Stacy Abel represented the convicted man, while then Director of Public Prosecutions Kim Hollis and Senior Crown Counsel O’Neil Simpson represented the Crown.
