(PLTM) - Four individuals are in the custody of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) in connection with the shooting death of Catherine Pickering of Paraquita Bay, Tortola.

Police Information Officer Dianne Drayton said via a statement early Wednesday, April 21, that the quartet is assisting with the ongoing murder probe, which occurred during a robbery on Sunday evening, April 18.

The 54-year-old passed away on Monday. Following the robbery, she had been rushed to the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital for medical attention.

“Updates will be provided when they become available,” Drayton added.

A previous police statement stated that initial reports indicate that a local businesswoman arrived home at around 7:30 pm with cash her business garnered for the day.

“Upon exiting her vehicle, she heard the voice of a male, demanding money. The mother of the businesswoman, who was at home at the time, heard a noise outside and attempted to exit the house and was shot. The assailant or assailants made off with a bag containing a sum of money.”

The RVIPF further said that no one else was injured in the incident and made a plea to residents with information that could lead to identifying the perpetrator (s) to contact the Major Crime Team at 368-5682 or the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.

“All calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence,” the RVIPF added.
