(PLTM) - Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Hon. Vincent Wheatley was elated on Thursday, September 17 that a Virgin Gorda man was successful in inking his first contract with the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) to fix the Jeffrey Caines Sports Arena on the sister island.

AGS Construction was awarded the $100,000 contract for phase two of the undertaking during a signing ceremony yesterday, September 18.

“I am very, very happy. I am always happy to see progress being made in the ninth district with a twist today because I think it’s the first project in the ninth district with a ninth district contractor. So that is progress,” Hon. Wheatley who is also the Ninth District Representative stated.

“He’s a former student, he’s a bright fellow, and I am very proud of what he is doing. He started out trying to be a singer and a chef, and he finally found his way to construction, and he is doing a fantastic job in the construction industry. I am very proud of this young man,” the Minister added.

More Than A Project

Meanwhile, Wheatley said, "the repairs to the sports facility is meaningful to the people of Virgin Gorda."

“The Jeffery Caines Sports Arena is not simply a construction project; it means a lot to the people of Virgin Gorda because we don’t have a lot of activities that we do on other islands like Tortola, so basketball is the lifeline of Virgin Gorda where we come together and fellowship while getting exercise. I am just pleased that this project is finally coming to fruition!”

John Primo, Director of Procurement at the RDA said AGS Constriction was selected from among the three bids that the agency received.
