(PLTM) - Second District Representative, Hon. Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull has expressed concerns over some students who are not benefitting from online learning in the Territory.
Turnbull, was lending his voice to the Cannabis Licensing Act at Friday, June 22 sitting of the House of Assembly when he pointed out the challenge.
He said while he was grateful to the Minister for Education, Dr. Natalio Wheatley and his team for their work in creating an alternative method to learning and adapting to online learning, this method is not for every student.
“We see what has happened in the schools and a whole term has gone. But, what’s also important Mr Speaker is that there are those who were in the classroom who were falling back and those same children they force them to go online where they needed the teacher’s hands-on assistance. Those are the ones that I am concerned about Mr Speaker,” Hon. Turnbull stated.
He added, “The ones that have fallen through because nine times out of ten I don’t know the Minister hasn’t said it, but we are expecting that whatever grade that they are in would be going up to the next school year, but they are at a disadvantage.”
In an attempt to continue school, governments across the globe have implemented online learning as an alternative to curb the spread of the fast killing Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
