Premier Requests Full Report On Flax-Brutus Departure

(PLTM) - Pointing out that the BVI Tourist Board operates independently, Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon. Andrew Fahie said he has requested a full report on the departure of Tourism Director, Sharon Flax-Brutus.

"First of all of I want to thank Mrs Flax-Brutus for her work, the hard work she put in the eight years. Definitely respected and thanks for all the positive contributions. The board is independent of myself, I have asked for a full report on it," the Premier stated.

He stated that he expects the report today, May 22.

The Premier added, "I understood is that Mrs Flax-Brutus resigned with six months notice as her contract say and the board, in terms of preliminary information, they made a decision to just pay her out for the six months. Anything other than that I can't answer until I get the full report but that’s the gist of the whole matter…I don’t interfere with the board."

Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Marlon Penn has thanked Flax-Brutus for her stellar contribution to the BVITB for the over eight years as Director and Board Member.

Flax-Brutus tendered her resignation this month was set to leave in November, but the Board had other plans and accepted her resignation with immediate effect as of May 20.

"I know Mrs Flax-Brutus to be a consummate professional, respected locally, regionally and internationally. I know this to be true because I saw her lead our tourism sector after the ravages of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Her talents, voice and expertise will be surely missed more than ever, as BVI Tourism needs a trusted and respected voice to lead us through this COVID-19 pandemic transition," Hon. Penn explained in a social media post.

He added, "I implore the Government of the day to quickly employ someone suitable qualified for the position, to navigate the difficult times ahead for our Tourism Industry.She has also served for decades in the private sector."
