(PLTM) - Premier and Minister for Finance, Hon. Andrew Fahie says there are persons in the House of Assembly and the wider community that are purposely trying to malign his Government’s reputation by giving a certain impression about various matters.

The Premier, while speaking in the House of Assembly on July 25, during the debate of the Motion to allow Deputy Speaker Hon. Neville Smith to enter into a contract with the Government, seemed to call out these individuals.

Hon. Fahie’s comment was in response to mentions that were made by various members as they sought clarity during the debate and made various points on the matter. These comments were described by the Premier as a direct attempt to mislead the public.

Hon. Fahie told the House of Assembly, “I am clear how this four years is going to go now more than ever, especially when we come in this Honourable House, and even outside.”

In referencing his dissatisfaction about some of what was said, the Premier said, “Mr. Speaker, I commend you for the patience and tolerance you displayed during the contribution to the debate by this Honourable House. Of course, Mr. Speaker, we have a few members that took us down a long meandering fishing expedition, while they tried to malign individual’s reputation, throwing mud in hope that some would stick due to the public accepting the twist and the misinterpretation of the Constitution.”

The Premier said that judging from the behavior he has witnessed, he feels the need to prepare his members of Government to withstand the accusations that he is certain will come.

“I have to go with my troops in the back room to tell them listen, we in the Government we moving with pure hearts and hands, but there is a plot on to make us look like we’re not transparent, we’re not accountable and we’re doing things under the table.”

In noting that he felt some of the points of the debate were mischievous, the Premier further said, “It is clear that the intention was to throw mud against the wall and hope something sticks…They can’t come to me about transparency…”

The Premier emphasized that mischief was a foot, and stressed that he needs to prepare his Government for what is shaping up to be a tough four years.

“I see what is being developed towards me as the Premier and my Government. I can see from the embryotic stage what's trying to happen, that’s why in a statement I gave I tell them expect more because they want to go down a road of irregularities and things that wrong and try to make it seem this Government isn’t doing anything and that we're corrupt.”
