(PLTM) - Following a successful inaugural staging, the organizers of the Hemp and Cannabis Festival that was held on Jost Van Dyke last year, are preparing to host the 2019 edition of the head turning event.

Last year’s staging of the festival caused tongues to wag about the benefits or opportunities associated with cannabis and ignited conversations about such industry in the BVI. The conversation is expected to continue as the organizers have made good on plans to make the event annual, by announcing that July 13 would be the next Hemp Fest.

Last year amidst buzz and whispers, BVI Platinum News interviewed Thomas Warner, the Manager of Foxy’s Tamarind Bar, who at that time stated that he foresaw that the event would become a mainstay on the events calendar of the Territory. In fact, Warner said that the inaugural Hemp Fest did much to pique interest on the various benefits of medical marijuana.

The Foxy’s Manager explained that there are documented health benefits from the herb, and noted that many countries are moving towards decriminalization. He also opined that the event is fertile ground for discussion on the matter of decriminalization.

“There are a lot of reasons why the issue of legalization of marijuana should be considered – one of them of course is the medical aspects of the use of cannabis. If you have someone in your life suffering from Cancer, it is known that cannabis can provide some relief,” he pointed out.

Last year’s event’s main speaker was US Virgin Islands Senator, Positive Nelson, who spoke specifically about the legislative process that he went through in St. Croix to facilitate the use of medical marijuana.

This year however, the organizers plan to have both food for thought and more entertainment.

It was disclosed that reggae superstar Luciano would be the headliner of the 2019 event.
