(PLTM) - His Excellency Governor Augustus Jaspert issued deportation orders for Carlos Manuel Ventura Done, Junior Manuel Mejia Aquino, and Wilbin Encarnacion Rodriquez, the three Dominican Republic men who entered the Territory last year with fake visas.
The men were arrested on October 29, when they were discovered on a cargo vessel that was docked in the BVI. They were sentenced on November 15 to 10 months imprisonment at Her Majesty’s Prison, and fined $600 each.
During the sentencing of the three men, Magistrate Shawn Innocent commented on the fact that the men were aiming to deceive law enforcement officials with their fake documents. He also noted that the men lied to officials, stating that they were members of the vessel’s crew, when in fact they illegally entered the Territory.
On May 24, Governor Jaspert ordered that the men be deported promptly.
In the order, the Governor said that it has come to his attention that the men are persons not deemed to belong to the Territory and that they have been convicted of the offence of being in possession of a forged visas, contrary to section 37 of the Immigration and Passport Ordinance (Cap. 130), which is punishable with imprisonment of three months or more.
Further, the Governor said that in his opinion and after consultation with the Chief Immigration Officer, it is believed that the three men are persons whose presence in the Territory would be undesirable and not conducive to the public good.
