(PLTM) - Kyron McMaster completed his promise to the storm-ravaged BVI with a historic gold medal run at the Commonwealth Games, in the men's 400-meter hurdles on Thursday, April 12 in Australia.

He was heavily supported by residents for all of the 48.25 seconds of the run, which earned the BVI its first ever gold medal in the history of the games.

Supporters here in the Territory live-streamed the race and several gathered at a Flow-sponsored breakfast party at Captain Mulligans to cheer every stride McMaster took.

Throughout the competition, international media highlighted McMaster's emotional journey to the games, having lost his coach, Xavier 'Dag' Samuels to hurricane Irma, one of the most powerful storms to have swept the Caribbean.

He related that he wanted to win the gold medal to help lift the spirits of his country.

More information from the race to follow.
