Laboratory results from an environmental assessment of the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic on Virgin Gorda are expected within two to three weeks as efforts continue to address conditions at the facility.
According to the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA), Dynamic 360 Support Services completed the onsite assessment on Wednesday, 16 September.
The assessment included visual observations, swabbing, sample collection and other evaluations. The samples were subsequently sent to PRO LAB in Florida for analysis.
Healthcare services were recently relocated from the clinic after concerns were raised about the building’s air quality. The development followed earlier disruptions linked to staff availability, which had already affected services at the facility.
While awaiting the laboratory results, the BVIHSA Environmental and Support Services team has cleaned the building.
According to BVIHSA, Al’s Marine Air Condition and Refrigeration Services also serviced the air-conditioning systems and cleaned the vents, while five indoor air-quality monitors were installed to support continued monitoring.
Services remain temporarily relocated, with 24-hour emergency care being provided at St Mary’s Anglican Church Hall. Other services, including wound care, vaccinations, home visits and prescription collection, have been provided through temporary arrangements across Virgin Gorda.
The planned roof repair project is also moving forward. The Ministry of Health and Social Development confirmed that the work will be treated as a priority, with Professional Roofing engaged to undertake the project under the Ministry’s management.
Once the laboratory results are received, the BVIHSA will review the findings and recommendations alongside the ongoing facility works to determine the next steps for the clinic.
The Authority said it recognises the clinic’s importance to healthcare delivery on Virgin Gorda and will provide another update after reviewing the laboratory findings.
It also thanked patients, staff and the Virgin Gorda community for their patience and cooperation.
