A 14-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of airport firefighter Eric Alezis Albert, who was fatally shot in Greenland last year.
Interim Acting Commissioner of Police Richard Ullger announced moments ago that officers from the Major Investigation Team formally charged the teenager with murder on September 8.
Albert, 28, a native of the Dominican Republic, was shot at around 11 p.m. on June 20, 2025.
Police stated that, as part of the investigation, officers conducted a search operation at a residence in the Greenland area on 27th June, 2025. During the operation, an AR-15 assault rifle and a quantity of 5.56 calibre ammunition were recovered.
Three individuals were arrested in connection with the firearm recovery. The 14-year-old was subsequently charged on 28th June 2025 with firearm-related offences in connection with the recovery and was remanded to His Majesty’s Prison.
Following continued investigations into Albert’s murder, the teenager has now been charged with Murder.
The teenager was taken back to His Majesty’s Prison, where he will remain pending his return to the Magistrate’s Court. A date for his return will be scheduled
Ullger said: “While the advancement of this case demonstrates the unrelenting dedication of our investigators to pursue justice, no matter how much time has passed, it brings me no satisfaction to report that the individual charged is a child."
He described the case as evidence of a “critical rupture” in the social structures intended to protect and guide young people.
“When a 14-year-old is implicated in an act of such extreme violence, it points to a deeply concerning reality that we, as a Territory, cannot afford to ignore,” he stated.
Ullger said policing alone cannot address the underlying factors that draw young people towards drugs, gang influence and serious violent crime.
He called on parents, guardians, educators, community leaders and social organisations to strengthen early intervention and mentorship efforts.
“We must collectively double our efforts to intervene early, mentor our youth and steer them away from drugs, violent crime and gang influence,” he said.
Ullger expressed hope that the charge would provide some comfort to Albert’s family and assured them that the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force remains committed to securing justice for victims of violent crime.
The video statement was delivered in English and Spanish, with Ullger noting that the killing also affected the Territory’s Spanish-speaking community.
