(PLTM) - Premier and Minister for Finance Hon. Andrew Fahie has laid the blame squarely at the feet of the territory’s religious organizations for the British Virgin Islands’ troubles.

The Premier said the churches failed in their spiritual mandate during his prayer of repentance on Sunday September 19.

The week of national repentance, spearheaded by the BVI Christian Council in conjunction with local Government, commenced on September 13 and ran till the 19th.

The week ended with a drive-thru service at the Road Town Festival Grounds as well as on the other sister islands simultaneously.

“This is our overcoming time…it is not only for political leaders, it is for the churches in the territory to take back their rightful place. Stop waiting for the Premier! Stop waiting for the Leader of the Opposition! Stop waiting for any elected official! The churches have to take back their rightful place," Premier Fahie said.

He continued: “We are not the honourable ones, you are! And we got into trouble because you let the cart go in front of the horse! And this is the day for you to take it back with a leader that the Lord has put for a little time like this because my time is limited, and do it while you have a leader that can get this thing entrenched. I am not saying politically; I am talking about do it while you have the atmosphere to do it so it can never be upset again.”

Full Of Sin

In the meantime, Premier Fahie said some who were listening to the live service would be questioning who is he to be uttering those words; but he made it clear that while he is full of sin, he has been saved by grace.

“Who is he? Yes it’s me; yes, he made plenty mistakes but saved by grace. Who is he to speak? someone that has been to hell and back but here saved by grace! Who am I to speak? Shot once but still here standing, saved by grace! Who am I to speak, someone who lost five children before you have two that’s healthy and strong! Saved by grace! Accused of many things, but through it, all the Lord kept me here! Saved by grace," Hon. Fahie stated.

The Premier then called for unity among the churches because he said it would be the strength of the country.

He also urged the British Virgin Islands to stop being so judgmental.
