One Active COVID-19 Case ‘Acquired’ Virus Locally

(PLTM) - Health Minister Hon. Carvin Malone said of the 25 reported active cases of the Coronavirus disease, one case shows that the virus was acquired locally.

Minister Malone made the announcement yesterday via a live televised broadcast.

“As of the 5th of May 2021, at the Dr. D Orlando Smith Hospital, 30,814 tests were conducted. Of these, 219 were confirmed positive. While 193 persons have recovered there exists 25 active cases and one reported death. In one of the active cases, there was no recent travel history, which means that the virus was acquired locally,” he said.

There are a total of 15 cases on Tortola, one on Jost Van Dyke and Anegada and three on Virgin Gorda. The remaining five are on boats.

All the cases, according to the government’s analysis, depicts that the full 25 are asymptomatic, meaning that the carriers are showing no symptoms of the disease.

Eight of the cases were identified during the entry screening on day zero, 13 on day four, one on day 14, two during travel screening and one is local.
