(PLTM) - When the high court of appeal of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court meets from May 31 to June 4, the case for interdicted policewoman Starcy Huggins will be on the list for a conviction appeal.

Huggins was charged and convicted for the criminal offence of ‘Breach of Trust’ and sentenced to a two-year sentence suspended for two years by Magistrate Ayana Baptiste DaBreo in 2019.

At the time of her sentence at the magistrate’s court, the court heard that her son’s illness, as well as the length of time since the matter occurred and has been in the justice system, went in her favour.

On the other hand, the court pointed to the breach of trust and the seriousness of the offence were circumstances that aggravated the wrongdoing.

She was represented by Attorney Stacy Abel, who at the time expressed her satisfaction by the magistrate’s ruling.

Background

It is alleged that while she was a serving member of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and privy to information about a covert police operation, she reportedly alerted the soon-to-be raided persons of the operation in 2013.

At the time, a group of officers were chosen to be part of the operation to conduct a search on two persons who had been under the police radar.

Huggins had been chosen and, like her colleagues, was briefed about the operation. On their way to the targets, the other officers stopped along the way, and everyone except Huggins exited the vehicle.

Inside the police vehicle, Huggins reportedly called one of the targeted persons stating: “Hey… ayo owe me big time. They coming; they coming now,” referring to the impending police raid.
