(PLTM) - Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon. Andrew Fahie said the late first Lady, Reverend Edris O'Neal, OBE embraced service above self while contributing in many areas to the development of the Territory.

The former First Lady, passed away this morning, May 24 following a period of illness, family members confirmed. She was 77.

"A distinguished former First Lady of the soil, Rev. Edris O'Neal, fought the good fight with all her might but has now passed on. She is now in the hands of God and not ours. Our Territory mourns her death," the Premier shared in a statement.

He added, "She was a lady of class, who served her country with distinction in many areas, like Red Cross and other civic organizations. Service above self was her mantra while on earth."

The Premier expressed condolences on behalf of his family the people of the Territory and the Virgin Islands Party family.

The Premier stated that Reverend O'Neal was deeply rooted in her faith. Reverend O'Neal, served in the Methodist Church and had served for sometime in Guyana, the church's South American District.

"Rev. Edris O'Neal loved her God and King as she served as a lay Preacher and Reverend for the Methodist Church for many years. She was a humble person but yet forthright and caring. She loved and cared for her BVI with true BVILove," the Premier said.

Reverend O'Neal is the wife of the late Premier, Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE, who passed away in November at the age of 85.
