(PLTM) - Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration Hon. Vincent Wheatley will be serving as the Deputy Premier for a few extra days. His extension was approved by Acting Governor David Archer Jr. this week.

The instrument of the appointment was issued by the Acting Governor, Mr. David Archer, on November 25; and extends the Deputy Premier’s stint, which was expected to come to an end on December 6 three additional days. The appointment will see Hon. Wheatley continuing to serve to December 9.

Back in September when Hon. Wheatley was appointed Deputy Premier Hon. Fahie thanked the Governor and the other Ministers of Government for agreeing to follow through on the unconventional arrangement, which enables the rotation of the Deputy Premiership. This rotation spans three months and is meant to promote capacity building.

Prior to Hon. Wheatley’s appointment, Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities Hon. Kye Rymer and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley served for three-month periods as Deputy Premier.

While speaking at the September appointment of Hon. Wheatley the Premier declared, “We have gone through two Deputy Premiers that I have full confidence that they can run the country come what may. When we are finished with this unconventional move, it will be able to help this Territory in a time of crisis.”

It was explained that the temporary appointments are expected to provide each minister with experience in leadership at the highest level.
