(PLTM) - The National Democratic Party (NDP), moments ago, confirmed the resignation of its Chairman, Myron Walwyn.
In a brief statement distributed to the media, the executive of the party stated that today, May 21, a resignation was tendered by its Chairman.
The statement indicated that the resignation from Walwyn was with immediate effect.
“In his letter, the outgoing Chairman thanked the party for entrusting it’s leadership to him, and for the overwhelming support he received during his tenure,” the NDP disclosed.
Further, the party said that Hon. Walwyn pledged his continued support to the NDP.
“He went on to thank those who have served as Chairman before him and the members who have labored faithfully with the party over the past 20 years.”

Word reaching BVI Platinum News is that Chairman of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Myron Walwyn has resigned.
Details surrounding the resignation are still unclear, and up to time of publication of this article, BVI Platinum News has not been able to get an official statement from party executives.
Walwyn was elected as the leader of the National Democratic Party at a convention that was held on June 23 last year at Treasure Isle hotel.
He marshalled the party’s candidates in the 2019 general elections, but the party lost its bid for another term and Walwyn was unsuccessful in regaining his seat as an At Large Representative. As a result, Deputy Chairman and Eighth District Representative, Hon. Marlon Penn was sworn in as Leader of the Opposition.
This resignation marks the fourth among the list of officers elected during the 2018 convention to resign. During the latter part of last year -- the founding member and Treasurer of the NDP, Archibald Christian tendered his resignation, and so did NDP Vice President, Dr. Michael Turnbull. Similarly, there was the resignation of Chairperson of the NDP Women’s Association, Shaina Smith.
