(PLTM) - A Cane Garden Bay man reportedly told police that a friend repaid a loan taken from him with cannabis (marijuana).
Donnell Blyden appeared before Magistrate Ayana Baptiste-DaBreo today, March 20, charged for the possession of cannabis and possession with intent to supply.
The charges indicated that on August 27, 2018 at Sage Mountain, he was found with 47.5 grams of cannabis.
He admitted to the charge of possession, but denied the charge in relation to the intent to supply.
According to the prosecution facts, on the day in question, while driving a Toyota Tacoma, Blyden was pulled over randomly by members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force’s Armed Response Unit at about 11:00am during a stop and search exercise.
Before the search commenced, when asked if he had anything illegal in the vehicle, he allegedly responded, “just an ounce of weed.”
The cannabis was found in a brown paper bag on the backseat, along with several empty and four filled dime bags.
Blyden told the officers that it was for his personal use, and that a friend owed him money and repaid his debt in weed.
He was released on $20,000 bail signed with one surety, and will return to court on April 3.
