Update: 41 Candidates Contesting Elections

(PLTM) - A total of 41 candidates will be contesting the upcoming February 25 General Elections, which represents one less candidate than the last election.

This was moments ago disclosed by Supervisor of Elections, Ms. Juliette Penn, following the end of nominations earlier today, February 14.

Of the 41 candidates, 16 are contesting for the Territorial At-Large seats, while there is a total of 25 district candidates.

The party breakdown is as follows: the National Democratic Party (NDP) 11 candidates, Virgin Islands Party (VIP) 13 candidates, Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) 9 and Progressives United (PU) 6. There are 2 independent candidates.

Back in 2015, 42 candidates contested the General Elections. Thirty-four of these represented party candidates, while eight ran independently.

Candidates

On the list of At-Large candidates, the VIP candidates are Carvin Malone, Neville ‘Sheep’ Smith, Sharie de Castro and Shereen Flax-Charles. Meanwhile, the NDP candidates were also all formally entered into the race. These individuals are Myron Walwyn, Henry Creque, Trefor Grant and Sandy Underhill. For the PVIM, Ronnie Skelton, Shaina Smith, Curnal Fahie, and Lesmore Smith were all registered, while appearing for PU is Rajah Smith, Verna Smith and Dirk Walters. Dancia Penn is the only independent At-Large candidate that was nominated.

The candidates for District One are VIP’s Hon. Andrew Fahie, PU's Stephanie Brewley and PVIM's Sylvia Moses.

In District Two, Carnel Clyne is contesting for VIP and incumbent Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull for the PVIM.

Julian Fraser will be seeking re-election in District Three, but will be defending his seat against the NDP’s Aaron Parillon and VIP candidate Arlene Smith-Thompson.

District Four has four candidates--incumbent Mark Vanterpool for the NDP, Luce Hodge-Smith for the VIP, Karl Scatliffe for the PVIM and Dr. Vincent Scatliffe for PU.

The NDP is being represented by Elvis ‘Juggy’ Harrigan, while Kye Rymer is contesting for the VIP and Wade Smith for the PVIM in District Five.

Over in District Six, Alvera Maduro-Caines is returning for the NDP, while John Samuel is seeking to unseat her for the VIP.

Hipolito ‘Diego’ Penn and Dr. Natalio 'Sowande Uhuru' Wheatley are running for the NDP and VIP respectively against the Seventh District incumbent, Hon. Dr. Kedrick Pickering, who is running independent.

In the Eighth District, Hon. Marlon Penn of the NDP is defending his seat against the VIP’s Dean Fahie.

Finally, in the Ninth District, Hon. Dr. Hubert O’Neal is once again with the NDP and is running against the PVIM’s Jose de Castro and the VIP’s Vincent Wheatley.
