(PLTM) - A Terminal Supervisor at the BVI Ports Authority told police that he stole a generator belonging to a Police Constable “for safekeeping.”
Samuel McSheene appeared before Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards on Monday, November 19, charged with theft. He denied the charge.
The Handsome Bay, Virgin Gorda man is accused of stealing the generator valued $25,000 on September 8 last year.
The court heard that he allegedly removed it from the ‘Pinch-a-Penny Supermarket’ on Virgin Gorda, days after the storm. The establishment is owned and operated by Angelina and Kenrick Stephens.
After investigating the theft, Angelina Stephens—who is a Police Constable—invited McSheene to the Police Station for an interview.
Eventually, he admitted to officers that he took the generator, telling them that he did so for safekeeping since the store was looted.
He was granted bail in the sum of $35,000 with one surety, and will return to court on November 27.
