(PLTM) - After months of news of him forming a new political party—the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM), Minister of Health and Social Development, and At-Large Representative, Hon. Ronnie Skelton has resigned from the National Democratic Party (NDP), following the revocation of his ministerial post.

He reportedly tendered his resignation after receiving his revocation letter from the Governor. The move to fire him was requested by Premier, the Honourable Dr. D. Orlando Smith.

Over the last several weeks, several members of the NDP—including two elected representatives—resigned to join the PVIM. Among them, founding member of the NDP, Hon. Archibald Christian, who was later fired from his junior ministerial position.

The others include Government Backbencher, Melvin Mitch Turnbull, former NDP Vice President, Dr. Michael Turnbull and former NDP Women’s Association Chairperson, Shaina Smith. They all confirmed their alignment with Skelton’s new party.

Hon. Skelton formed the new party following losing his run for NDP Chairman against Hon. Myron Walwyn. When asked about his actions destabilizing the Government, he told this publication that he was only doing what is right for his country.
