(PLTM) - The Government is yet to provide an accurate account of the total hurricane relief donations that have been received to date, and how much of this is remaining—offering a preliminary list showing just over $16 million in relief donations.
Following queries by BVI Platinum News, the Premier’s Office released information pertaining to a donation list of 200. However, details and figures were not provided on all donations.
Thus far, information provided suggests that $16,124,837 in donations were received, and of this, $3,204,321 was in cash.
Information is yet to be made public as to how much of these donations were used or distributed, and how much remains.
According to the Premier’s Office, in a missive to the media, “The document is a working document and is constantly being updated and further information related to donations is expected to be released in the coming weeks.”
Requests have also been made by the office for donor information to remain confidential, “in an effort to prevent the possibility of legal repercussions.”
Previously questioned on the transparent accounting for these donations, Premier and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Dr. D. Orlando Smith had committed to this being done by the Government and Recovery and Development Agency, saying, “RDA will be making regular reports and Government will be making regular reports.”
