(PLTM) - The BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) has donated $1,000 along with much needed food items to the Family Support Network (FSN).

The Ports Authority said that on Wednesday, July 25, the staff delivered to the office of FSN, a cheque for $1,000 that was raised during a yard sale, as well as an ample supply of food and household items.

Tracia Smith Hodge, Administration Manager of BVIPA, said that apart from the general mandate of BVI Ports, being good corporate citizens is also a crucial component of the statutory body’s culture.

“We are happy to make such a donation to FSN. We see the hard work that they continue to do in our community and we felt it was important for our organisation to practically be part of what is needed for our community to rebuild - supporting those that are truly in need in our Territory.”

FSN’s Director, Sasha Stoutt said the organisation and its clients remain thankful for all the contributions made to support its work.

“We know that the Ports are very busy right now, so it does mean a lot to us that they are reaching out to FSN and our clients in this way."

Stoutt added that the contribution would certainly be used quickly.

“As soon as we get items for our food pantry they almost immediately leave because we do have clients and other members in the community that are facing significant financial hardship, and through donations like the BVI Ports’ donation, we are able to serve those individuals as they too try to rebuild their lives," she said.

Individuals or businesses wishing to donate to the Family Support Network can contact them at telephone number 542 2085.
