Temulji & Yadali Are Mr. & Miss World BVI 2018

[gallery]After what was described as a consistent performance, 21 year-old Yadali Thomas Santos was crowned Miss World BVI 2018.

With a Beauty With A Purpose platform that she nurtured for three years, Yadali won the title of Miss World after being judged Miss Photogenic, Miss People’s Choice, Best Cultural Dress, Best Talent, Best Evening Wear, Miss Intellect, and for her Beauty With A Purpose project.

Yadali stood out in each of the categories, but shone brightest in the talent segment, as she spoke of how at one time her accent made her insecure about speaking, and how other young persons deal with various insecurities that they believe make them feel unworthy.

In sharing how she persevered, Yadali encouraged persons to continue to defy odds and brave challenges. She ended by playing a flute rendition of Sia’s hit, ‘Elastic Heart’.

In the evening wear category, her blue long sleeve hand beaded mermaid tail gown elicited gasps as she effortlessly glided along the stage, but it was the interview segment that Yadali excelled as she effortless answered all three of the questions that were put to her.

Now that the show is over, Yadali said that she is excited to take her ‘Youth Development’ platform to the next level and will commence immediate preparations for the Miss World competition that will be taking place in Sanya, China on December 8.

The other contestants were Anika Christopher and Aaliyah Inniss.

The Miss World Committee announced that since there were three finalists, they would not announce a runner up.

Mr. World

Chair of the Miss World BVI Committee, Damion Grange explained that co-founder and Chair of the Miss World organization, Julia Morley encouraged the committee to send a representative for the 2019 staging of the Mr. World competition.

He said that the committee saw the Mr. World title as an opportunity to positively influence young men in the community and commenced seeking a candidate. The search ended with Temulji Hughes, whose project aligned with the committee’s vision for the title.

25 year-old Temulji in his powerful acceptance speech announced that his purpose to motivate young men in the community took root in February, when his brother was shot and killed. He said the incident changed his life and made him ponder, on not only his brother’s unfulfilled life, but the lives of many other young men who for various reasons are not living their full potential.

He said he purposed to make a difference in the lives of particularly young men in the community.

Temulji said he was however taken aback when he was presented the opportunity to move his project forward as Mr. World BVI. He said when he was called and offered the opportunity to be Mr. World he declined. “I said absolutely not, but then I thought about it,” Temulji explained.

He said he hesitated to take the title because he has never seen himself as a pageant participant. However, he said after learning about what the Mr. World title stands for, he embraced the opportunity.

Now, Temulji announced he intends to immediately commence preparation for his two-year reign and his project to motivate and help influence change in the Territory’s young men.
