(PLTM) - A man was injured while allegedly trying to rob a food van in the Long Bush area last Saturday. He was arrested and taken to the Peebles Hospital where he escaped, but was later recaptured.
"Presently in custody is also one man being questioned in relation to an attempted robbery of a food stand in Long Bush just after midnight Saturday morning," police said on Wednesday, July 4.
Police further explained, "He escaped custody at the hospital while being treated at Peebles Hospital for injuries sustained during the attempted robbery, but was subsequently recaptured."
Speaking to the failed robbery, police said that two armed males dressed in black hoodies reportedly held up workers of the food stand.
Initial investigations indicate that one of the armed males tried to grab a bag of money from a worker, but was fought off. In the struggle, the gun was extricated from that assailant and his partner ran off through the parking lot. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Alwin James is appealing to persons present to assist the police in recovering the firearm dropped at the scene.
"These firearms are a danger to members of the public," he stated.
